There’s a great deal of reflection to be garnered by former professionals as the years pass by. Perhaps more than enough. Just ask Gail Emms, who admits that the 20th anniversary marking her and Nathan Robertson’s World Championship title “kind of passed me by” this month.

Maybe that’s because the mixed doubles greats had already celebrated 20 years since their breakthrough, but heartbreaking silver medal at the Athens 2004 Olympics with a dinner alongside former coach Andy Wood.

“Although it wasn’t at the forefront of my mind, I have been playing a bit of badminton recently and connecting with clubs,” says Emms.
