She hasn’t lost a match since March and the South Korean bandwagon rolled on once more as world No.1 An Se-young became the first player to win back-to-back Asian Games women's singles gold medals.

By beating Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-17, 21-9, she had already surpassed the great Carolina Marin’s record of 67 individual finals, the most in women’s singles history.

Having won world titles in 2023 and 2026, with Paris Olympic gold added to the mix in the middle of those, she has now held the top ranking for more than 100 weeks.

Last year she won a record 11 BWF titles and became the first player in history to earn over $1 million in prize money in a single season.
