A new site dedicated entirely to high-quality coverage of badminton has launched on CounterPress.

The Badminton Report is stepping up to give the sport the coverage and promotion it deserves, filling a gap in the market left by the mainstream British sports media.

The site is fronted by Rod Gilmour, who has covered Olympic sports for 20 years.

He first covered badminton at the 2010 Commonwealth Games for The Daily Telegraph, as well as for Reuters at the All England Championships.

He continues to write on Olympic sports for UK national newspapers.

The Badminton Report members can look forward to a British-based slant on the sport, as well as full coverage on the international game.

It will cover all aspects, from grass roots to elite level and what is happening at board room level.

Rod said: “Coverage of badminton has suffered over the last 15 years, especially in the UK, since the decline of print. There is a gap in the market right now, given the huge global popularity of the sport, and The Badminton Report aims to exploit that.”

The Badminton Report’s early interest waiting list is now open ahead of a full launch on September 21.

Badminton fans keen to explore the platform can secure an exclusive discount on membership by adding their details to the mailing list today.

The Badminton Report becomes the first racquet sports title to launch on CounterPress, taking the number of sports covered by the platform to six.

Football, cricket, rugby union, futsal and esports are already represented on the network, with further expansion into rugby league and horse racing planned for later this year.

CounterPress offers the technical infrastructure and industry knowledge and support that journalists and creators need to build their own media brand.

Co-founder Sam Morshead said: "I'm delighted CounterPress Media is on the journey with Rod, providing the infrastructure, strategic consultancy, brand design, and day-to-day editorial, technical and commercial support the site will need to sustain and thrive.

"Niche and sub-niche subjects have the power to engage loyal audiences, and make relatively small numbers go a mighty long way financially, with the right framework and network behind them."
