"I am very, very scared that at the highest level of our sport, we are going to lose a little bit of that drama..."

Viktor Axelsen has always been vocal about how badminton works, and on his Twitch stream in May this year, he didn't waste much time saying how he felt about the upcoming scoring system change.

Starting January next year, badminton will be played in the 15x3 format instead of 21x3, and right off the bat, it's clear to almost everyone associated with the sport that it will dampen the excitement of gruelling marathon matches that stay in memory longer.

In their Official Report for backing the change in scoring system, the BWF's conclusions went like this: "(15x3 format) creates more exciting points due to fewer points per game; reaches those exciting moments faster; produces reduced and more predictable match lengths; balances excitement within each game and across the whole match; offers more consistent match durations than 5×11." Of course, player health has also been repeatedly cited as a reason for this move.
